Viking Explorations & Polishing Leather

What I Learnt:

A few days ago, I wrote about how the Polynesian people were the greatest seafarers known to history. And while this certainly is true when it comes to the extent of their voyages and the vast expenses that they covered, it doesn’t mean that the achievements of other seafarers were in any way lesser accomplishments. Namely, the Vikings.

The Vikings sailed in some of the roughest seas in the planet. Seas that are cold, dark and unpredictable. And while the Pacific Ocean has its fair share of typhoons and tropical storms, it isn’t quite as forbidding as the northern Atlantic Ocean.

What they achieved was as unprecedented and as awe inspiring as what the Polynesians did.

What I Like:

While I don’t do this as often as I probably should, I find that polishing my boots (and these days my kids’ boots too) to be a source of calm and peace. Perhaps it is the thought of looking after something so that it serves you well and for a long time.

Or perhaps it is simply a break from the digital world. And it is good to work with one’s hands.
