Sepp Herberger & Apple’s Magic Keyboard
What I Learnt:
Sepp Herberger was the football manager for the West German national team which won the FIFA World Cup in 1954. His team beat the legendary Hungarian team known as the The Mighty Magyars in a final that has gone down in football folklore as The Miracle of Berne.
One of Herberger’s most famous quotes is one that initially sounds unnecessarily cryptic, but actually makes a lot of sense. He said, ‘After the game is before the game.”.
Your last game is over. Move on. The only game that matters is your next one.
I recently attended a photography workshop by Smita Sharma, an award winning photographer with National Geographic. In it she talked about the need for preparatory research, steadfast ethics and the willingness to go the extra mile. The message I gleaned from it all was that it doesn’t matter how famous you are. The only thing that matters is how good is the next photo you take.
It is uncanny how the drive for excellence and continuous improvement has such universal principles.
After the game is before the game.
What Made Me Happy:
My new Apple Magic Keyboard that has just arrived today. Yes, I know it sounds materialistic. But I just love a good keyboard. The sound it makes as you type, the travel of the keys and the look & feel. This keyboard may not be quite as brilliant in a tactile sense as some of the mechanical keyboards out there. But after struggling with the keyboard on my 2018 MacBook Air, it feels amazing.
